What is FIFA Ultimate Team?
Before we start with this guide, we answer the most important question. Ultimate Team is the mode that will be responsible for your grey hair. You will create your own team and can expand and strengthen it through success in offline and online games.
The Beginning of FIFA 22 Ultimate Team
At the beginning of your FUT career, you have to found your club. Here you decide on a suitable club name. If you already have a FUT account, you can, of course, continue to use the name from a previous season. You have to choose a logo too, but this can be changed again later in the game with a small amount of the in-game currency.
FIFA 22 Ultimate Team Guide: Player Cards
When you dive into FUT for the first time, the mode looks like another trading card game. There are players in bronze, silver, gold – at the beginning everything is still quite clear.
FIFA 22 Ultimate Team Guide: Squad Building Challenges
SBCs appear on a regular basis and offer you unique rewards. To complete a Squad Building Challenge, you need to submit one team (or more) with players who meet certain conditions. For example, an SBC could look like this:
FIFA 22 Ultimate Team Guide: Chemistry
As you will probably have asked yourself: Chemistry? What is that? The team chemistry actually describes how well your players harmonize with each other. You can of course blindly pick some fancy players and throw them together... But we don't do that here. No chemistry, no party!
FIFA 22 Ultimate Team Guide: Loyalty
To master your chemistry stats, you definitely should take a look at the loyalty. If someone has already played ten times for your team, he receives an additional chemistry point. It's even easier with players drawn from a pack: pack players receive a loyalty bonus right from the start! The bonus is shown with a green symbol on the card.
FIFA 22 Ultimate Team Guide: Items
In Ultimate Team, not only players are important. Packs often contain items or consumables. These include, for example, player contracts, healings, position modifiers or chemistry styles. Here is a list of the most important item cards in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team:
FIFA 22 Ultimate Team Starting Guide
For those who play or have played previous versions of FIFA Ultimate Team, there’s always that positive feeling that everything will start again. You’ll finally have the chance to start over from scratch, equally with others, knowing that you won’t make the same mistakes again.
Prepare Yourself
Before starting the season you have to prepare yourself. You have to plan it. The first thing to do is try to get to know the game. Is there anyone who has ever won a chess match without knowing the rules? Probably not. FUT 22 is a game like any other and it has (many) rules.
Start as Soon as Possible
The sooner you start your FIFA 22 Ultimate Team campaign, the higher are your chances of being successful. This is due to the beginning of the game being the most important time. With the passage of time the market will tend to become more and more stable. If you know what you’re doing you’ll get a good head start.
Customize Your Club
There are a few steps before you start playing that allow you to customize your team a bit more:
Sell all your cards
As soon as you sign in for the first time, you’ll be gifted with some packs, kits and 10×1,500 coins boost. The first pack, an untradeable Starter Pack, offers you everything your club needs to start: players, stadium, ball, badge and kits. Your FUT 21 gaming activity is also worth Gold Players Packs.
Collect even more coins
The items you’ve sold are already good enough for a good start but if you can gather some more coins your growth in the game will be even faster. That’s why it’s important for you to waste no possibilities.
Start Trading
Now that you’ve already got some coins it’s time to start multiplying them. You should start with safe investments but always leaving some coins aside in case anything goes wrong. Don’t worry about starting slow. You have a whole season ahead of you.
Game modes
One of the first things to decide on Ultimate Team is where to spend your playtime.
Squad selection
One of the key differences between Ultimate Team and other game modes is getting links between players in your side, making sure they have good chemistry.
Objectives
If you check under the objectives tab, you will see there are various tasks to complete, which offer varying rewards.
Meta play
Meta players are certain cards that are prominently used, so you will encounter them a lot.
Beginners Tips
Before you even kick a ball, a great place to start is completing the foundation Squad Building Challenges.
Silly mistakes
When you're new to a game you are bound to make silly mistakes or not realise simple methods that have become second nature to others - here are a few examples to watch out for:
Crossing is Back
FIFA 21 didn't present many opportunities for crossing to play a major part in your buildup or scoring chances. That's changed with FIFA 22. This year, crossing feels like a viable attack option. By pressing Square (X on Xbox), you can send balls into the box and use your strikers to attack the net through the air.
Win Through the Air
In general, the aerial game feels much more deadly this year. If you have pacey strikers up top, use L1+Triange (LB+Y on Xbox) to send a through ball over the top of the defense. This lets your striker run onto the ball and get in behind the defense for a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper.
Master a Skill Move or Two
You don't need to become a skill move fiend to have success in FIFA 22. Of course, you can bother to learn all of the fancy tricks in the game, but as long as you master a few, you'll be in a good spot. We'd recommend getting comfortable with easy skill moves like the fake shot, ball roll, bridge, and drag back.
Use the Right Shot
With goalkeepers given a big buff in FIFA 22, you need to know where and how to shoot. Outside of the box Finesse Shots are great this year. To do this, get a player with a high Curve and then use R1 + Circle (RB + B) from outside of the box. If you can master timed finishing, these shots can be even more powerful.
Pick a Formation That Suits You
There isn't a magic formation that's going to do everything you want. Instead, you need to find something that suits your playstyle. Personally, we like either 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-2-1-2 (2). The former is a great defensive formation that lets you use CDMs to help cover your defense.
Defend with Your CDMs While Learning
Some players are going to hate us for saying this, but when you're just starting out, try not to defend with your centerbacks. The AI defense is usually pretty solid in the back, so you're better off attacking the player with the ball with a CDM. This gives you a bit of a safety net if you mess up.
Make Use of Two Man Press
By holding down R1 (RB) on defense, you can bring a second man over to attack the player with the ball. This puts more pressure on the offense as you start to overload them. You can also use this to pressure the ball with an AI defender while you close off a passing lane with the player you're directly controlling.
