Introduction

New year, new FIFA. One of the biggest changes to Career Mode in FIFA 18 is the overhaul of the transfer system. This is a very positive change in my opinion but it will take time for players to adapt. For example, I’ve heard of lots of people that missed out on transfers because they didn’t realise a confirmation was required.

What This Guide Covers

I”m aiming to cover everything transfer related in this guide. The full end-to-end experience. From finding transfer targets, using the new Transfer Hub system, negotiating and release clauses.

What is the Transfer Hub?

As the name suggests, the Transfer Hub is where you manage all of your transfer activity in FIFA 18 career mode.

Shortlist

The transfer shortlist is nothing new in career mode, but it’s location has changed. Previously you could shortlist players you were interested in to make it easier to find them later. Rather than being a standalone feature, the shortlist in FIFA 18 has been brought into the new transfer hub which makes a lot more sense.

Sent Offers

This tab also seems to be an improvement on previous versions of the game. Previously you’d be looking at offers categorised on their status (Successful and unsuccessful etc). Now you have one single tab to view all offers you have sent in the current season, with a breakdown of their value and status.

Received Offers

Just like the Sent Offers tab, this has also been improved. The design and organisation feels a lot cleaner and simpler to use. Here you’ll find a list of all offers you have received during the current season.

Transfer Listed

Another tab that should be self-explanatory. This will show you all players within your squad that you have added to the transfer or loan lists. You can also filter by loan or transfer to make things easier. This is a lot easier than scrolling through the squad hub to check which players you’ve placed on either list.

The basics of making a transfer

The transfer system may be new, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. Let’s take a look at an example.

Delegating transfers to your assistant

If you want to buy a player, or haggle for a better amount when selling a player, but don’t have the time (or inclination) to dive in fully to the new transfer system, you can always delegate transfers to your assistant.

Handling transfers yourself

Should you decide to handle transfers yourself, you’ll get complete control over what to offer the other side and what to accept in return. That means there’s a lot to take into account, and a lot of new features to learn about. Here are some of the key things to consider when working out the initial transfer fee with the other team:

Release clauses explained

Release clauses are a completely new addition to FIFA 18, and there’s quite a lot of confusion surrounding them. Are they a good thing? And what should you do if your players have one?

Loaning players

One change in FIFA 18 that is causing a lot of consternation isn’t to do with buying and selling players, but with loaning them. Specifically, it looks like it’s become a lot harder.

Other transfer tips

Clubs seem to send in a lot of transfer requests for your players this year. If you’ve got a player that you want to keep hold of no matter what, head over to the Squad Hub and choose ‘Block offers’ once you’ve highlighted the player. That will stop players bidding for him.

I love FIFA career mode, so much so that I run a site devoted to it at FIFAscoutingtips.com. I'm sad like that.

Signing a Player on Loan

Trying to bring a player in on loan is similar to signing a player in that you have to shortlist them first. Then you can select the Approach option. You might be told that the club isn’t looking to loan that player out at that time. If this is the case, you’ll want to consider other targets.

Sending a Player Out on Loan

I would be very confident that getting players out is used significantly more than getting them in. This can be explained by more people managing bigger clubs and developing their own young talent.

Wage Split

This is a helpful addition for FIFA 18, whichever side of the table you are on. If you’re looking to bring a player in, paying a percentage of their wages is more viable than paying the lot. Especially if the player is from a big club that pays very high wages.

Is it possible to get a few players sold out on loan?

Prevention is the best cure. Yes it will still happen, but it’s easier to get a few players sold/out on loan than trying to shift 15+. Avoid signing players until you need to and don’t abuse the youth scouting system.

Is it difficult to sell a player in FIFA 18?

In FIFA 18 Career Mode (and FIFA 19), selling or loaning out players is incredibly difficult. Once you have received and accepted an offer for loan or sale, you wait. Hopefully you’ll receive an email to say that personal terms have been agreed and the player has been loaned/sold (or will be). However, in FIFA 18 it’s more likely that you’ll receive an email like the one below, telling you that the player’s transfer talks have broken down.
