This is one of my favourite aspects of career mode and crucial to keeping a save interesting over several seasons. As players in the game get older, they’ll begin to decline and eventually retire. This would shrink the player base massively within a few seasons so the game needs a way to generate new players.

Promoting a Player
If you’re reading this page, I have to assume you’ve assessed a player in your youth academy and decided you’d like to offer him a professional contract. If you haven’t reached that stage yet, please go back and read the previous sections to get yourself up to speed. Otherwise, continue reading.
Professional Contract Wages
Considering your academy players will have been only earning a weekly wage of £425, you’d assume they’d want a sizeable increase in their salary. Lucky for you (especially if you’re struggling financially), they’ll only ask for £550 a week.
Professional Contract Length
In my experience, I find that youth players will ask for or agree to contracts between one and three years in length. We all know that longer term contracts is a great way to drive up value and deter potential suitors (or increase their bid), but it can be risky.
Squad Role
This should be the obvious choice but I would always tell a youth player that they’re a ‘Future 1st Team Player’. Bear in mind this is assuming you’re managing for example a Premier League club. If you’re at a smaller club and the player is much closer to the standard of your squad, offer them a greater squad role.
Potential
Strangely, potential can actually become more vague after offering a player a professional contract. Instead of seeing a min-max range, you’ll have to look for a statement on their bio.
Training
I covered training briefly in the previous segment but will revisit it here. For now, what I will say is that its really up to you. In my experience, it is definitely possible to ‘over train’ players, stunting their physical and mental attributes – as seen here.

Start a new game or load the existing one you’d like to edit players in.
2. Open the EASFC Catalogue
Press R3/Right Analogue stick (whatever you call it) to open the EASFC catalogue. This is where you’ll find other items like Scout Future Star or International Manager Offer.
4. Open the Menu in Career Mode
Scroll to the squad tab in career mode and the Edit Player tile in the bottom right should now be accessible. Select this option.
5. Select a Player
From your squad of players, select one that you’d like to make changes to.
6. Make your Desired Changes
Change whatever you like about the player in question. We’ve included a list below detailing all the possible options that are available to you.
7. Save!
When you’re done and want to back out, make sure you select ‘Save and Exit’.

Player Type
- Once a player joins your academy, their player type will be confirmed, if it wasn’t already. This will be really important to you if you’re aiming for a player of a specific type or position. I’ve already mentioned this but player type tends to affect a player’s stats more than anything else.
Age
- This comes up in the monthly scouting reports but it’s not as important there so I’ve saved it for this part. Youth players can be as young as 15 and as old as 18. You can sign anyone to your youth academy regardless of their age, but you can’t promote someone to the senior squad until they are 16 years old.
