Premier League
The main football league in England works as basis for most FIFA 18 Ultimate Team squads out there. Why does that happen? First, because it’s where more people play the game. Besides that, this league is considered the most spectacular professional football league in the world. But there are more reasons.
LaLiga
LaLiga is also one of the top leagues, but not just because it’s got elite players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Lionel Messi, Gareth Bale and Luis Suárez. This is the mandatory squad league for people with an unlimited budget on FUT 18.
Bundesliga
The FC Bayern popularity is not the only reason why the main German football league is, at the moment, the third most used league in FIFA 18 Ultimate Team. It always has good solutions for every – or almost every – position, with a more accessible price than the Premier League. However, there are not many replacements for the top-quality players.
Serie A
Do you feel like you can’t gather the coins necessary to build a squad based on one of the three leagues we described previously? Don’t worry. The Serie A allows you to start from low or medium spending capacity while that doesn’t mean a significant quality loss.
Ligue 1
Among the five leagues given as the most popular ones, the Ligue 1 is clearly the weakest. It’s relatively cheap, more than the Serie A, but it doesn’t offer quality solutions for all positions like the Italian league does.
Other Leagues
If your budget is low, there are leagues that can be quite useful to you. Here are the Portuguese, Russian and Turkish leagues. Having them as base, you’ll be able to build minimally competitive squads with just a portion of your coins. The biggest problem you might come to find is player’s choice as there are not many.
Advantages of lower league gems
There is less money in the lower leagues, so this has a knock-on effect on transfers. Just think when was the last time a top-flight club was held to ransom by a minnow? In some cases, these players are just as talented as some Premier League or La Liga players, so if you look hard enough you can find a great deal.
Alena (OVR 73 – POT 89)
Barcelona B features heavily in this top 10, with the club having such a prestigious academy. Pep Guardiola, Carles Puyol, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas, Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique have all come through La Masia, with midfielder Alena the current top talent coming through the B side.
Vitinho (OVR 71 – POT 86)
There is competition for who is to be the premier architect at Barcelona B, with the 19-year-old Vitinho possessing plenty of talent. The attacking midfielder, winger or central midfielder is actually on loan at Barca from Brazilian club Palmeiras, but this deal has been made permanent on FIFA 18.
Marc Cucurella (OVR 68 – POT 86)
It’s a Barcelona B team hat-trick with Marc Cucurella completing the top three. The 18-year-old left back has been the club’s regular left back this season, and has chipped in with two assists from his eight games so far.
Ryan Sessegnon (OVR 66 – POT 85)
Linked with a move to Tottenham over the past year, Ryan Sessegnon is a regular Championship starter at the age of just 17. The left back or winger has already featured 15 times for Fulham this season, and it looks like it won’t be long before he makes that step up to the Premier League.
Ben Brereton (OVR 66 – POT 85)
At the age of 18, Nottingham Forest’s Ben Brereton has bags of potential, but the striker needs to improve his output. In 29 appearances for the club, he has only scored three times, so manager Mark Warburton may soon lose patience with him.
Oriol Busquets (OVR 66 – POT 85)
Back to Barcelona B, with Oriol Busquets providing the steel in midfield. No relation to Barca regular Sergio, Busquets has only just started to feature for Barca B this season. The 18-year-old has progressed up to the Spanish U19 side, so keep an eye on his development over the next few campaigns.
